J.A.M. and Company - Arizona Concert Tap Dance, Rooted in Tradition, Driven by Innovation

About J.A.M. & Company

Founded in 2023, J.A.M. & Company is Arizona’s only concert tap dance company, dedicated to presenting tap as a dynamic and powerful concert art form. Under the artistic direction of Jenefer Miller, the company unites a collective of accomplished dancers — Kelly Zwolinski, Chrissy Jones, Beverly Pinkerton, Hillary Zbyszinski, Megan Maltos, Erin McBride, and Serena Christianson — each bringing distinctive artistry, musicality, and presence to the stage.

The company’s work is rooted in the legacy of rhythm tap while embracing the aesthetics and structures of concert dance. Drawing inspiration from masters such as Eddie Brown, the Copasetics, Sam Weber, and the Nicholas Brothers, Miller infuses the choreography with a lineage of rhythm, improvisation, and storytelling. Her own path has been profoundly shaped by mentorship with Dianne Walker, Heather Cornell, and the late Professor Robert L. Reed, grounding her work in tradition while opening new possibilities for the concert stage. Recognized as a storyteller through dance, Miller leads the company in creating works that merge the swing and jazz traditions of classic tap with contemporary concert frameworks, producing performances that are both historically resonant and forward-looking. At its heart is the interplay of percussive sound and visual movement, elevating tap beyond entertainment into a compelling and expressive concert form.

J.A.M. & Company has appeared at the Phoenix Fall Festival, Arizona Dance Festival, Phoenix Tap Festival, and Hollywood Tap Festival, offering audiences work that honors tap’s history while embracing innovation. Guided by Miller’s decades of experience as a professional tap dancer, choreographer, educator, and storyteller, the company is committed to bringing art, rhythm, soul, history, and community to Arizona stages while shaping the future of tap as concert dance.
